Ska
is definitely back and there is no better than the icons of the scene,
The Toasters. Formed in the lower east side of NYC in 1981, The Toasters
have gone on to become the linchpins of the US ska scene, and are the
longest running act in the genre. They have released over 10 albums over
the ten years and logged an incredible 4,000 live shows around the
world. In 1997, Billboard
Magazine called
them "New York's ska pioneers," for crossing many barriers,
including taking their trademark ska, reggae, power-pop mix behind the
Iron Curtain and to the steamy jungles of Brazil. They completed a
sold-out tour with Reel Big Fish a few years back, played at stadiums
and fests all over Europe from 2003-2006, and averaged over 400 people
per show on their winter 2003-2004 "Ska Brawl" tour in the
United States and the Ska is Dead 3 tour. In 2007, The Toasters will be
doing their 25th Anniversary tour starting in Europe in the winter,
then coming to the Eastern US and Midwest in the Spring. They have
accepted and offer to do Warped Tour this summer, and then will head
back to the states for more 25th Anniversary dates out west in the fall.
