Nelly’s Echo is a concept of the musical experience associated with its creator vocalist/guitarist Nelson Emokpae who prefers to define his music as storytelling with a groove aka folk soul. The folk soul singer is inspired by soul music and contemporary melodic storytellers such as Jason Mraz, John Mayer and Leon Bridges to name a few. Born in Lagos Nigeria, he for the last 20 years calls Baltimore MD home. Nelly’s Echo has had his version of, “Ain’t No Sunshine” reach #7 on the iTunes R&B charts while also having his original song, “Voices of the People” named a World Cup 2014 Super Song Top 20 semi-finalist. Nelly’s Echo has had the privilege of not only entertaining the military in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba but also turned heads in Season 3 of NBC’s, The Voice

Nelly’s Echo is based on the premise that music is a two-way street; “It’s a give and take.” Nelly refers to the musician creating the ambiance and & Echo refers to the audience’s response to, and appreciation of the ambiance. Nelly’s Echo’s captivating storytelling and high energy performances have made him a sought- after musician all across the United States and overseas.
Nelly’s Echo was a contestant on season 3 of NBC’s The Voice where he made it into Team Christina Aguilera where she quotes: “I had so much fun listening to you right off the bat…I find you so interesting and compelling. I would love to be able to collaborate ideas. It seems like with you the sky is the limit…I want to go to a concert; I want to see the whole show.”.
Nelly’s Echo has shared stage with the artists such as Trombone Shorty, Travis McCoy, Sean Kingston, & Boyz II Men to name a few. In addition, he has had the privilege of delivering a TedTalk at TedX Wilmington in the summer of 2016 to a standing ovation. His topic was titled “The Art of Winning Over a Crowd” by Nelson Emokpae.
