Throughout the course of the weekend, I presented an educational session for students to learn about how they can bring major names to their campus, and we had three artists showcasing and Eric Dittelman hanging out in the Degy booth all weekend!
Before the showcase lights came on, I presented an educational session titled “MAJOR EVENTS: How to survey, price, budget, offer, contract, market, advance & execute a major event!”, a topic that couldn’t come at a better time as schools wrap up the school year and are starting to look forward to their fall concerts with Welcome Back events, Homecomings, and more.
The session was focused on empowering campus programmers to think strategically about their entertainment dollars and leverage the resources around them. The session highlighted best practices when booking a major name to come to your campus, as well as highlighting the ways that Degy can help support the student activities team through their planning of major concerts and comedy shows.

Degy also brought three incredible acts to showcase in Milwaukee with each one showing the range of programming that college campuses are hungry for right now.
On Friday afternoon, Carmen Diane hit the showcase stage and wowed the audience with her soulful demeanor and unique performance style, opting to play the bass rather than guitar. Highlighting favorites like Tennessee Whiskey by Chris Stapleton and Still Into You by Paramore, Carmen can hit an incredible range of options to fit the needs of every campus.
The Campfireball hosted the Saturday afternoon showcase. This "Reverse Storytelling" event flips the traditional performance model on its head: rather than telling the audience a story, Cory and The Campfireball pulled bits and pieces from the audience's lives and built them into a story that everyone can connect with. From initiating a game of “Ultimate Rock Paper Scissors” to learning how one audience member recently got engaged to their high school sweetheart, the crowd was engaged from start to finish. This interactive campus entertainment creates the kind of memorable, shareable experiences that build campus community.
To wrap up the showcases for the weekend, Headphone Disco brought the energy and got the crowd up and dancing. With stations like 2000’s Throwbacks and Pop Divas, the DJs got the crowd singing an unexpected mashup of Justin Bieber and Paramore, as well as classics like Mr. Brightside and What Dreams Are Made Of from the Lizzy McGuire movie. Headphone Disco continues to be one of the most requested campus entertainment experiences, perfect for welcome week, homecoming, and late-night programming.
NACA Milwaukee reinforced several trends in college programming:
Acts like The Campfireball that engage students directly rather than performing at them create deeper connections and more memorable campus events.
Campus programmers value acts like Carmen Diane who can adapt to various venues and event formats, from coffeehouses to outdoor festivals.
Headphone Disco and similar high-energy experiences continue dominating student activities programming because they consistently deliver packed rooms and excited students.
The packed educational session on major event planning showed that student activities professionals are hungry for practical, actionable guidance on producing large-scale campus entertainment.
As the conference season winds down and fall booking ramps up, now is the perfect time to lock in your programming for the 2026–27 year. Whether you're building a coffeehouse series, planning a large-scale campus event, or looking for something truly unique that your students have never experienced, Degy has you covered.

NACA Milwaukee is a regional campus activities conference hosted by the National Association for Campus Activities, typically held in April. It's the final major NACA regional conference of the academic year, serving colleges and universities primarily in the Midwest region with showcases, educational sessions, and a campus activities marketplace.
NACA Milwaukee is a regional conference serving Midwest schools with 200-400 attendees and more regional artist focus, while NACA Live is the national conference (typically in February) serving all regions with 1,000+ attendees and featuring major national talent. Both offer showcases, education, and booking opportunities but at different scales.
Degy Entertainment showcased Carmen Diane (acoustic/soulful performer), The Campfireball (interactive storytelling), and Headphone Disco (silent disco dance party), representing diverse campus programming options. Additionally, mentalist Eric Dittelman hosted booth experiences throughout the conference.

Key campus programming trends from NACA Milwaukee include increased demand for interactive experiences over passive performances, versatile acts adapting to multiple venue types, proven high-energy experiences like Headphone Disco, educational programming support for student activities boards, and diverse representation in artist rosters.
Absolutely! NACA conferences showcase only a fraction of available campus entertainment. Degy Entertainment's full roster includes hundreds of acts across all categories – comedians, musicians, variety performers, interactive experiences, and themed events. Headphone Disco is a silent disco experience where participants wear wireless headphones with multiple music channels (typically 3), allowing different musical preferences simultaneously. It's popular on campuses because it accommodates diverse musical tastes, creates unique social media moments, works in noise-restricted venues, and consistently drives high attendance.
The Campfireball's "reverse storytelling" format involves the performer gathering stories, experiences, and details from audience members through games and interaction, then weaving these elements into a cohesive narrative that the entire audience helped create. This interactive format makes every performance unique and deeply connected to that specific campus community.
Degy supports major campus events through talent buying across all artist levels, budget development and ProForma modeling, contract negotiation and advancement, marketing and promotional support, production coordination, sponsorship guidance, and on-site event management through Degy360°.
